Green Smoothie with Avocado, Mint and Coconut Water | vegan | sugar-free

May 15, 2018 by Deniz Leave a Comment

Sugar-free green smoothie with avocado, spinach and coconut water // fructopia.de

When it comes to the world of “detox” I’m torn. Yes, I do like my smoothies green and refreshing. And I do like to consume something that makes me feel like I’m on top of things. That, whatever this specific day brings, I’m ready for it. I also like the idea to rid my stressed body of any unnecessary residues that are still stored inside of me.

But wait, what kind of residues are we actually talking about? Right, most like last nights fast food and vodka soda. And this is where detox get’s an off-taste – me trying to fix last nights choices with a green breakfast smoothie or maybe a even a half day fast, going from one extreme to another.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to make a case against green smoothies. Sometimes it’s exactly what we need. But maybe we need to make sure, we drink it for the right reasons. …

Spelt Banana Bread with Nuts | sugar-free, vegan, wheat-free

February 21, 2018 by Deniz 5 Comments

Spelt Banana Bread with nuts | refined sugar-free, no added sugar, wheat-free, vegan | fructopia.de/enDo you have a favorite vegan and sugar-free banana bread recipe yet? Or are you like me, who pins and saves hundreds of different recipes from all over the web, continuously tinkering around with them?

Either way, I ask you not to miss on this healthyish no added sugar banana bread version. It’s vegan and wheat-free, and the mix of oats, ground nuts and whole-grain spelt flour makes it a perfect guilt-free breakfast treat. The real magic happens before the baking though. I don’t just add the mashed raw banana to the batter. Instead I allow the banana to bath and caramelize in a knob of hot coconut oil first! Caramelized banana for the win!

Chocolate Butter Cookie Caramel Cups | wheatfree, sugar-free, vegan option

February 14, 2018 by Deniz 4 Comments

Recipe: Sugar-free Chocolate-Caramel-Cups with Spelt | lactose-free and vegan option // fructopia.deRecipe: Sugar-free Chocolate-Caramel-Cups with Spelt | lactose-free and vegan option // fructopia.deIf I had a proper excuse, I’d probably try to play it. But I don’t have one. This recipe has been hiding in my digital drawer for way too long. But today this buttery beauty is finally being released into your wheat-free, sugar-free kitchen.

To be honest, I’d always favor one of these tartlets over any kind of traditional cake. The spelt flour crust reminds of buttery shortbread. Hidden underneath it’s crisp chocolate top is a creamy layer of homemade caramel that will knock of even the biggest cake lover off her socks. And did I mention that you can easily turn it into a lactose-free or vegan treat if you like?

A short note on the video: I was very fortunate to spend some time with the amazing team at Kitchen Stories, who created this beautiful recipe video with me. The video is in German, but I hope you’ll enjoy it anyways, at least for it’s instructional purpose. 😉

Flaky Strawberry & Rice Milk Scones (Vegan, Sugar-Free, with Spelt)

August 2, 2016 by Deniz 6 Comments

Sugar-free Spelt Scones with Strawberries and Rice Milk (wheat-free, low in fructose, refined sugar-free fructosearm) / Recipes by fructopia.deSugar-free Spelt Scones with Strawberries and Rice Milk (wheat-free, low in fructose, refined sugar-free fructosearm) / Recipes by fructopia.de The average German citizen consumes a roughly 35 kilograms of sugar each year and I used to be pretty good at boosting that average with my own excessive consumption. There was a reason the “sweets drawer” in our home had a classwide reputation. Ah, home sweet home!

But let’s take a moment to think about this number: It’s been six years now since I quit sugar for good. Six years, which amounts to a total of 195 kilos of sugar that never got pumped through my body. Sadly this also made me realize that, during the other ⅘ of my life, I already consumed four times the amount without even blinking an eye. Holy caramel!

But hey, at least I’m on the right track, don’t you think?

Actually, being aware of your own sugar consumption or even making an effort to reduce it, is further down the road than most of the people around you will ever get. No matter if you are quitting sugar by choice or for health reasons, it’s time to give yourself a proud pat on the shoulder here, because you’re doing a pretty awesome job! …

Superfood Kumpir: Turkish Baked Potato with Avocado, Salmon and Turmeric Yogurt Sauce

July 27, 2016 by Deniz 3 Comments

Superfood Kumpir: Turkish Baked Potato With Salmon, Avocado and Turmeric Dressing | Sugar-free Recipes by fructopia.de

Don’t be fooled. This is not your ordinary baked potato. Just speaking of ‘Kumpir’ (pronounced koompeer) is like diving deep into the sunday-cravings of just about every Turk living close to the Bosphorus. Heading out to grab a Kumpir on any given weekend is the equivalent of Berliners going out to a club on Sundays. It’s just something you do. No questions asked. What’s more, a week without just doesn’t feel right. Especially now with all the political turmoil going on, grabbing a Kumpir feels like taking one last bite of normality.

For those of you who haven’t heard of Kumpir yet, it is a massive baked potato drowned in sauces, overflowing with all kinds of processed salads, sausages and cheese. Yes another one of those bummers for us FODMAPers. The good news, it couldn’t be easier to turn this dish into some full-blown, low FODMAP deliciousness. You can top it off with everything that makes you purr with delight. Following a first ‘healthy’ kumpir recipe in my cookbook, I thought I’d share another winning combo with you today!…

Rich Pistachio Cheesecake Brownies | Sugar-Free Recipes | fructopia.de For the past months, life has been a rollercoaster ride. It feels like someone took all my experiences and thoughts from the past 3 years, put them in a jar, closed the lid and shook it like mad. Weekday Breakfast Fix: Sugar Free Millet Porridge With Turmeric and Almond Milk

January 20, 2016 by Deniz 16 Comments

Weekday Breakfast Fix: Sugar-Free Millet Porridge With Turmeric and Almond Milk #sugarfree #fructosefriendly // fructopia.de/en
I don’t need to open my eyes to know it’s still dark outside. I wrap the blanket a little tighter around my body while trying to hit the “snooze” button as quickly as possible. But before the alarm hits off again, I already slip out of bed to make my way into the kitchen. I’ve come to learn that there is nothing worse then getting up at a cold and dark winter night, than being stressed out on a cold and dark winter night. I usually trick myself into getting up on time by treating myself to a piping bowl of porridge. Right now I’m back at millet, one of my favorites ever since turning my back on wheat. I always add coconut oil and turmeric to it. The base itself provides me with just enough of the nutritional goods to keep me going until lunch. To make it more fund I add some crunch and mix the bitter from the raw cocoa nibs with the mild sweetness of the rice mal syrup.

And boy, isn’t it really beautiful to look at too? It looks like the whole universe unfolding right in front of me.
What’s your secret to getting up on time these days?…

5 Ingredient Low FODMAP Challenge: Mackerel-Hazelnut-Spread With Feta-Tomato-Thyme-Salad for Colleen from FODMAPLife.com|fructopia.de
Food blogger are a tight-knit group of people. We comment on each other’s Instagram posts, retweet like hell, delve into each other’s blogs and seem to “know” the same people. Sometimes we even exchange a few mails or invite one another over for an interview. If we seem to get along like mac ‘n’ cheese, we might even meet up for lunch. Crazy on one hand. Brilliant on the other. I really appreciate those virtual connections, as I’m not granted any fructose malabsorption allies among my circle of real-life friends. So just like you ask me your questions, I send mine over to Steph, Melissa, Sonja or Colleen.

Just like you, Colleen has a long past spiked with ups and downs: She went through numerous surgeries, and was officially diagnosed with Hashimoto and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), just to name a few. At some point Colleen was sick and tired of being sick and tired and decided to henceforth focus on her personal healing process and that of her clients. As a certified nutrition counsel she is an expert on all things FODMAP and develops fun recipes for her site FODMAPLife.com. With over 42.000 follower on Facebook she also built up one of the most successful communities for food intolerances, irritable bowel syndrome, coeliac, Hashimoto’s and Crohn’s disease.

Because I’m a huge fan of Colleen’s work myself, there was no way of turning down the low FODMAP cooking challenge she came up with. …

The Sultan’s Breakfast: Çilbir – Poached Eggs On Yogurt And Garlic Infused Oil

The Sultan’s Breakfast: Çilbir - Poached Eggs On Yogurt | gluten-free, fructose friendly recipe | fructopia.de/enThe Sultan’s Breakfast: Çilbir - Poached Eggs On Yogurt | gluten-free, fructose friendly recipe | fructopia.de/en
It’s been pretty quiet around here the past couple of weeks. But don’t be fooled. Behind the scenes there was some serious tinkering and thinking going on. Why? Because Istanbul worries us. The city is nervous, its air is hot and sticky and our mood is low. Not feeling safesetting foot in the subway anymore is one thing, but seeing the frustration with this country’s government written all over our friends’ faces is another thing.

These days, Istanbul is changing right in front of our eyes. Rapidly. And we literally feel the growing pains. There is this thick layer of heat, bluster and political outrage covering the city. And it has become increasingly difficult to maintain our initial euphoria, to keep our love for this unique city alive. The way out is out.

It’s a wrap. We’ve come to a decision and already gave notice to leave our flat. Three weeks left until we turn our backs on Istanbul, for now. A kneejerk reaction? Maybe. But an important one.

My Morning: The Fructose Friendly Chef + Homemade Granola

Interview Series My Morning: The Fructose Friendly Chef on her sugar free morning routine // Fructopia.de/en

Lately nothing has fascinated me more than the art of starting the day in beautiful and productive style. Everybody seems to have his or her own way of claiming the day’s first sunbeams. Seeing as the morning hours hold such a precious place in my heart, I thought it might be time to find out how other talented bloggers and bloggerettes start their day and thus created this interview series. So instead of asking „How was your night?“, from now on I’ll rather be asking „How was your morning?“.

After a beautiful prelude to this series with earlybird Steffi, I should probably warn you ahead of today’s interview: If you too are a child of the sun, you might find yourself packing your bags for Australia right after finishing this read! Why? Because today’s guest, the fructose friendly chef Melissa, wakes up where koalas and kangaroos kiss each other good night, while being surounded by cafés sure to make your food sensitive heart leap for joy. Morning walks on the beach in dreamy light and an enviably healthy tan on Melissa’s face: If being a morning grouch looks like this, I’ll take an extra large serving! But see and read for yourselves…

Gluten Free Holidays: Fructosefree Blueberry-Buckwheat-Cake With Lemon Curd

Gluten Free Easter Holidays: Fructosefree Blueberry-Buckwheat-Cake with Lemon Curd // Gluten-freie Ostern: Fructosearmer Heidelbeer-Buchweizen-Kuchen mit Zitronencreme // by fructopia.de #freefrom #foodsensitivities #holidaybaking

Sound familiar?

I made a cake and am super excited to treat my family members to a healthy and sugar free dessert for the holidays. Everybody gathers around the table and happily digs into piles of Easter bread, juicy carrot cakes and delicate chocolates. Lightyears seem to have passed since the last holidays. One by one, tense shoulders around the table loosen up and even my guilt-free cake receives some attention.

Right when I’m about to put on a content smile, thinking how nice it is that people finally seem to appreciate healthier alternatives instead of the usual sugar bombs, I get hit by a wave of comments again: “Your cake tastes really good, like, really healthy! A little bit like bread… Really good. I would just add a bit more sugar the next time.”

Duh! I mean that’s the whole point about fructose free cooking, right?

Time To Reveal A Big Secret & Fructose Friendly Chocolates For All!

February 24, 2015 by Deniz 23 Comments

Time to reveal a big secret & fructose friendly hocolates for all! // Heute lüften wir ein Geheimnis. Fructosearme Pralinen für alle / by fructopia.deWords cannot describe. I’ve been bursting with excitement for a year, but find myself at a loss for words, now that the day has come, to raise the curtain and share my secret with you.

Countless times I imagined, what this moment of getting the big news out there would feel like. And now, I can finally present to you, what I’ve been putting so much heart into, what’s kept me awake at night and also gained me a few extra pounds.

But let’s start from the beginning. Sometime at the tail end of 2013 I wrote an email, asking for a free promo-code to download an app on fructose malabsorption to review it on my blog. At that time Fructopia was a mere six months old.

I received the code, tested the app and gave it a dismal rating, prompting me to write and share a detailed review. And then? Well, the people in charge of the app were actually delighted! Um, what? That’s right. They were delighted and wanted to talk to me.

And that was pretty much how we closed the deal. Let me dance a little dance, while I overdose on fructose, waiting for the symptoms to confirm this is real. …

5 surprising ways to use coconut oil

February 19, 2015 by Deniz 14 Comments

Before we jump into today’s post, I’d like to talk about money for a second. Some of the links in this post are so-called affiliate links. You are most likely familiar with this already, but let me explain quickly for those of you who aren’t. If you happen to order some of the mentioned products in this post or other posts through the provided links, Amazon or other affiliate partners will pay me 3-7% commission. Of course for you as a buyer the price of the product stays the same as for everyone else shopping at Amazon. So far I „earned” a total of 3 € through the linked products in the sidebar to the right. But Amazon only pays me if and when I actually cross the 100 € line. Nothing to get rich with I guess. But maybe at some point this will cover the running costs for this blog. I just wanted to be open about the links I provide on this space. Because in the end it should be your choice, who get’s a share of your currency spent. Now let’s move on to today’s post.

5 Gründe warum Kokosöl in euer Küche nicht fehlen darf! // 5 surprising ways to use coconut oil! // by fructopia.deWhile a pot of rice is happily steaming away on my cooker in light of my next kitchen experiment, let me offer you another peak into my pantry. You’ve probably noticed my love for unusual ingredients: Asofetida, nettles, bee pollen, you name it. Today’s starlet is on the exotic side as well, but I’m sure you’re more familiar with this one: Hi there coconut oil! …

Chocolate covered orange peels (fructosefree)

January 15, 2015 by Deniz 2 Comments

Orangen-Upcycling: Verwandlet Orangenschalen in einen fructosefreien Snack // Fructopia.deWelcome in 2015! This year will be great! The mere thought of it makes my whole body tingle and I can’t stop grinning from ear to ear like the Cheshire Cat. According to Google, „to grin like a Cheshire Cat“ is the equivalent of the German idiom „grinning like a honey pie horse”. Now you know. 😀 Anyway, like I said, 2015 will be great!

For one, I just kicked off writing for German lifestyle magazine i-ref.de as a regular contributor. It is all in German, but you should check out this talented and absurdly good-looking team anyway! I’m also super flattered to be working alongside one of Germany’s most famous food bloggers: Jeanny from Sugar, Cinnamon and Love. She is the queen of backing, which is why her books are currently being translated into English as well!

And, as if that wasn’t enough, there’s more big news. I know I’m being a tease, but bear with me. Let’s just try to enjoy the anticipation for now. And don’t forget to sign up for my newsletter. That way you won’t miss any of the big news. No spamming of course!

I must admit, the new year has activated some sort of “green smoothie” gene in me, which comes as no surprise seeing as my skin is craving the sun and my nose is constantly seeking the smell of spring bouquets. I’ve really come to love blending lush greens and nuts and turning these into a filling meal. That being said, I’ll continue to stick to the earthy winter produce for now, as long as it’s available. So let’s talk oranges. …

Purple basil lemonade

Purple Basil Lemonade #sugarfree #fructosefree #fructosemalabsorption // Lila Basilikum-Limonade #ohnezucker #fructosearm #fructoseintoleranz // Fructopia.deMost of my recipes are a byproduct of me going nuts at the weekly farmers markets, buying more produce than I can handle. That’s why recipes such as this rainbow salad, which are designed to taste amazing, while coincidentally using up as much food as possible, are clearly among my favorites.

Today, instead of salad, I present you this basil lemonade.

Um, is that supposed to be tasty? Yep, very much so!

Purple basil, or thai basil, is vibrant in color and dulcet in taste. Add fresh lemon juice, powdered glucose and a pinch of anise, and you are set to go. It reminds me of ‘şerbet’, the refreshing, yet absurdly sweet lemonade from Ottoman times, that is still popular in Turkey to this day. But don’t worry, my blend is hardly as sweet.

It’s the perfect drink to ask summer for another extension.

Faces held out towards the warming sun, legs dangling in the sparkling sea, endless nights on the terrace of a summer house located somewhere along the manifold azure blue coastal landscape of southern Turkey. A table bending under the weight of all the delicious mezze and fresh produce, brought forth by the fertile earth we are surrounded by. Standing nearby, a grill with delicate fish, bought off of a local fisherman on our way home from the beach. He shares a faint smile as a long day out on the sea comes to an end. Sun, wind and water have left their marks on his face, hinting at all the stories he could tell.

You are probably thinking, that I must have thoroughly been enjoying myself this summer. After all, every true „Istanbullu“ spends summer at their summer house, right?

Cut, rewind. Let’s start from scratch. But this time, let’s stick to the facts, okay? 😉

Fresh and green: #fructosefriendly mallow smoothie // Frischer und grün: #fructosearmer Malven-Smoothie // Fructopia.de

It may just be the season, but the whole blogosphere and Instagram community seems to be going crazy about smoothies and smoothie bowls at the moment. I’ve also been observing an increasing demand for smoothies low in fructose, which are just a little bit more challenging to make. I already introduced you to Smoothies recipe a while ago, but in general I keep on combining and testing whichever ingredients I manage to get my hands on. One of my favourite finds so far this year is marshmallow. Ok, not quite, but close. It’s actually the common mallow. Common mallow is this lovely little plant, which grows on the side of roads and hiking paths, which we usually don’t pay much attention to. Most people don’t even know that its leaves as well as flowers are edible and that both make wonderful additions to any salad. When added to soups, mallow acts as a thickening agent. Of course you can make some delicious tea with it too. But it is not just its taste that draws me to common mallow. In the end it’s all the more fun, when there are some additional health benefits involved, right? So what good can mallow do for you? First of all it is rich in Vitamin C and beneficial mucilage. The abundant mucilage soothes throat inflammations and coughs. It also has a slightly laxative effect. Not too shabby, don’t you think? What’s best is: Common mallow is free. When you are out on your next walk in an area that resembles nature you’ll probably start spotting it everywhere. Because it literally grows everywhere. That small patch of grass, the one that all the dogs in your neighborhood choose to pee on, does not count though. So grab your book for identifying local, wild flora, go out and collect some mallow for your salad and this fructose free smoothie recipe….
