Sugar-free Multigrain Pancakes with Chia Jam | wheat-free, low fructose

October 20, 2015 by Deniz 5 Comments

Fructose Friendly Multigrain Pancakes With Chia Jam (sugar free, wheat free, low FODMAP) // fructopia.de/enNow and then I get invited to talk on other blogs by other inspirational bloggers, who also happen to be affected by fructose malabsorption, IBS or allergies of some sort. Before every interview I worry that I won’t have anything new to tell. But I’m always surprised at how much I learn about myself and my own habits, when asked the right questions. Eva (individualisten.at) and Danée (lucyvstheglobe.com) know their craft and I’m particularly proud of being featured on their blogs this month.

With Danée we talked about FODMAPs, FOMO and Berlin. Our interview was the last of its kind, which she conducted for Lucy vs The Globe. But I’m sure there are more exciting things to come! Read the full interview here.

Eva is everything I’m looking for in a modern yet grounded nutritionist. Unfortunately her blog and our interview are in German only. I did translate the recipe I shared with Eva’s readers however. Even though I’d love to translate the full blog entry for you someday! Enjoy! …

If you are anything like me, you are constantly on the lookout for new sources of inspiration, cool kitchen gadgets and awesome cookbooks. This post is jam-packed with awesome things I found around the interweb that are definitely worth checking out!

The University of California created an amazing video on how glucose works in our bodies compared to fructose. Must see!

Now I know what all that wheat flour is good for!

Have you had a look at Jamie Oliver’s latest cookbook yet? Apparently he lost 8 kilo just by quitting sugar and is now on the same track as us! Can’t wait to see his new book “Superfoods Everyday”!

Can somebody lend me a kid? I need a reason to buy this app!

Food for thought: Aubrey’s organic, natural and holistic story

This is somewhat of an oldie but goldie to you english speaking lovelies, but Sarah Wilson’s bestseller is finally available in German!

Are you in love with kefir? Rightfully so! With these kefir grains you can even prepare that fermented glory at home! …

My Morning: Lieschen Is Getting Married

September 15, 2015 by Deniz 6 Comments

My Morning: A chat with wedding expert Susanne from „Lieschen Heiratet“ about her sugar free morning routine | Fructopia.de/en
“Have you seen those gorgeous ‘save the date’ invitations? Oh, I just love the glittery confetti! And those flowers!”

Don’t worry. I haven’t switched my line of work. I’m just having a look around. Food bloggers do marvel at other things than food from time to time. Who wouldn’t, considering these stunning wedding ideas over at
Lieschen-heiratet.de . The genius behind? Lieschen aka Susanne Rademacher, communications consultant and book author by trade and at heart, as well as Germany’s undisputed wedding blogger queen.

All these successful projects of hers surely require a lot of energy, thus making Susanne the perfect candidate to interview for my series on morning routines. I’m extremely happy she agreed to share her personal tips on how to start the day in a relaxed manner with us! Don’t miss out on that bonus question at the end! Enjoy! …

The Sultan’s Breakfast: Çilbir - Poached Eggs On Yogurt | gluten-free, fructose friendly recipe | fructopia.de/enThe Sultan’s Breakfast: Çilbir - Poached Eggs On Yogurt | gluten-free, fructose friendly recipe | fructopia.de/en
It’s been pretty quiet around here the past couple of weeks. But don’t be fooled. Behind the scenes there was some serious tinkering and thinking going on. Why? Because Istanbul worries us. The city is nervous, its air is hot and sticky and our mood is low. Not feeling safesetting foot in the subway anymore is one thing, but seeing the frustration with this country’s government written all over our friends’ faces is another thing.

These days, Istanbul is changing right in front of our eyes. Rapidly. And we literally feel the growing pains. There is this thick layer of heat, bluster and political outrage covering the city. And it has become increasingly difficult to maintain our initial euphoria, to keep our love for this unique city alive. The way out is out.

It’s a wrap. We’ve come to a decision and already gave notice to leave our flat. Three weeks left until we turn our backs on Istanbul, for now. A kneejerk reaction? Maybe. But an important one.

Toasted Quinoa Salad With Grilled Halloumi And Herbs (Vegetarian, Gluten-Free, Fructose Free)

Recipe: Quinoa Salad with Grilled Halloumi, Herbs And Tahini Dressing (Vegetarian, Gluten-free, Fructose Friendly, Low FODMAP) // fructopia.de/enThe culprits: Black tahini and coconut butter! The victims: Two broken kitchen machines in less than a week, one of which wasn’t even mine.

After destroying two tools in such a short period of time, I had to ask myself whether I

a) own the wrong tools,
b) live in the wrong country or
c) should stay away from ‘fancy recipe’-land for a change?

Why? Because I keep thinking, this “Braun/Magic Bullet”-dilemma wouldn’t have happened with a Vitamix. And would I have been in Germany instead of Istanbul at the time, I most likely would have simply picked up ready-made coconut butter or tahini at the nearest health food store instead of bothering to make it from scratch. Leaving us with c) and the realisation that too much of Pinterest’s rainbow-cake-wonderland-inflow can be destructive at times. …

Review: Fructose Friendly, Vegan Coconut Ice Cream By Mailorder

July 31, 2015 by Deniz Leave a Comment

Fructose Friendly, Vegan Coconut Ice Cream By Mailorder // Fructopia.de/enFor once I’m taking the back seat. Instead of letting my own voice do the talking, I asked my lovely sister Derya to write the very first guest post on Fructopia. Usually busy studying and shooting YouTube videos, Derya loves to spend most of her leisure time in the kitchen developing sneaky little sugar free treats. Naturally she was my first choice to review a new fructose friendly and refreshing treat for you: Coconut ice cream! Unfortunately this product is only available in Germany for now. We didn’t want to deprive you of these gorgeous images though. That’s why I’m sharing my translated version of her write-up with you here. Enjoy!

My Favourite Late Summer Breakfast: Toasted Muesli With Ice-Cold Raspberry-Oat-Milk

July 24, 2015 by Deniz 2 Comments

My Favourite Late Summer Breakfast: Toasted Muesli With Ice-Cold Raspberry-Oat-Milk // fructopia.de
During the past two years I slowly completed my transformation from typical German “Butterbrot” or ‘sandwich-for-breakfast-girl’ to ‘full-blooded-oatmeal-lover’. You should know that oatmeal or porridge, were never a big thing in Germany while I was growing up. Only slowly are they gaining some attention, ever since we dropped the German “Haferschleim” or ‘oat slime’ moniker and started switching to the more appealing English ‘oatmeal’. Imagine somebody offering you oat slime! Gross!

Anyways, time’s are a changin’ and I’ve become a real sucker for the oats. A piping hot bowl of oatmeal for breakfast keeps me satisfied for hours and I love it’s soothing effect on my tummy. My favourite fructose friendly version even made it into my cookbook: Creamy oatmeal with raspberries, cardamom, black sesame and a dollop of ghee! Incredible!

But seeing as steaming superfood compositions don’t go well with the currently rising temperatures here in Turkey, I had to think of something else. Instead of turning my favourite breakfast into a mushy overnight version, I wanted to create something with a nice crunch. This is how silky oats with raspberry and wintery spices, evolved into sugar free toasted muesli, bathing in ice-cold raspberry-oat-milk. I wouldn’t even go as far as calling this an actual recipe because this summer breakfast is so easily assembled! But hey, enjoy! …

With her delicious recipes and dreamy pictures this curly beauty from Melbourne continues to show how easy a wheat free and fructose friendly diet can be on a daily basis. Fructoseintoleranz: Alle Symptome Und Beschwerden auf einen Blick

July 19, 2015 by Deniz 112 Comments

People like you and me, are surrounded by endless menus, we run around supermarkets for hours, but in the end we still end up going home hungry and annoyed. “Do we really need to add onions, wheat, tomatoes, sugar, honey and dates to every freaking dish?” According to research, “every third German suffers from fructose malabsorption”, so do I really need to argue with the waiter when all I need to know is exactly what they put in the that dressing? Whoever came up with fructose malabsorption, must have loved complaining. After all, it’s what really comes naturally to us (sarcastic undertone), isn’t it?…

Behind The Scenes: These two photographers helped breathe life into Fructopia – The Book

It’s been eight days now since my first very own cookbook *cansomeonepleasepinchme* hit bookstores in Germany, but its proud mom has yet to hold it tight in her arms. This of course might explain, why your feeds aren’t flooded by “selfies with my cookbook” yet.

My Morning: The Fructose Friendly Chef + Homemade Granola

April 21, 2015 by Deniz 3 Comments

Interview Series My Morning: The Fructose Friendly Chef on her sugar free morning routine // Fructopia.de/en

Lately nothing has fascinated me more than the art of starting the day in beautiful and productive style. Everybody seems to have his or her own way of claiming the day’s first sunbeams. Seeing as the morning hours hold such a precious place in my heart, I thought it might be time to find out how other talented bloggers and bloggerettes start their day and thus created this interview series. So instead of asking „How was your night?“, from now on I’ll rather be asking „How was your morning?“.

After a beautiful prelude to this series with earlybird Steffi, I should probably warn you ahead of today’s interview: If you too are a child of the sun, you might find yourself packing your bags for Australia right after finishing this read! Why? Because today’s guest, the fructose friendly chef Melissa, wakes up where koalas and kangaroos kiss each other good night, while being surounded by cafés sure to make your food sensitive heart leap for joy. Morning walks on the beach in dreamy light and an enviably healthy tan on Melissa’s face: If being a morning grouch looks like this, I’ll take an extra large serving! But see and read for yourselves…

My morning: Healthy Happy Steffi

April 1, 2015 by Deniz 9 Comments

Interview Series: Healthy Happy Steffi on gluten and sugar free life // Interviewserie: Bloggerin Healthy Happy Steffi über ihren gluten- und zuckerfreien Morgen! // Fructopia.deMorning journal, meditation, oil pulling, breakfast recipes: Lately nothing fascinates me more than the art of starting the day in beautiful and productive fashion. The possibilities are endless. It begins with the multiple candidates for first drink of the day, be it hot lemon water, bulletproof coffee or fresh rosemary tea (insider tip if you are always freezing!). Breakfast yes or no? Some yoga sun salutations or straight to work? Everybody has their own way of claiming the day’s first sunbeams.

Seeing as the morning hours hold such a precious place in my heart, I thought it might be time to find out how other talented bloggers and bloggerettes start their day. And so the idea for my new morning interview series on FRUCTOPIA was born! So instead of asking „How was your night?“, from now on I’ll rather be asking „How was your morning?“

To break ground I’d like to introduce you to a very healthy and happy lady: Please meet Steffi, fellow blogger from healthyhappysteffi.com and freshly graduated nutritionist. Browsing through her blog assures me that she will breathe new life into the antiquated work of nutritionists in Germany. Not only, does she have first-hand knowledge when it comes to food intolerances, having successfully eliminated dairy, gluten and sugar from her diet, but she still manages to create delicious recipes (make sure to check out her Instagram profile!). Basically she breaks down hard to digest knowledge about food into fun little readable and edible bites. Great stuff! Now let’s give a warm welcome to Steffi!

Gluten Free Holidays: Fructosefree Blueberry-Buckwheat-Cake With Lemon Curd

Gluten Free Easter Holidays: Fructosefree Blueberry-Buckwheat-Cake with Lemon Curd // Gluten-freie Ostern: Fructosearmer Heidelbeer-Buchweizen-Kuchen mit Zitronencreme // by fructopia.de #freefrom #foodsensitivities #holidaybaking

Sound familiar?

I made a cake and am super excited to treat my family members to a healthy and sugar free dessert for the holidays. Everybody gathers around the table and happily digs into piles of Easter bread, juicy carrot cakes and delicate chocolates. Lightyears seem to have passed since the last holidays. One by one, tense shoulders around the table loosen up and even my guilt-free cake receives some attention.

Right when I’m about to put on a content smile, thinking how nice it is that people finally seem to appreciate healthier alternatives instead of the usual sugar bombs, I get hit by a wave of comments again: “Your cake tastes really good, like, really healthy! A little bit like bread… Really good. I would just add a bit more sugar the next time.”

Duh! I mean that’s the whole point about fructose free cooking, right?

App-Review: “Food Intolerances” + A Giveaway

March 26, 2015 by Deniz 9 Comments

No matter if you are a newbie or a trooper, we all have to deal with tons of contradicting lists and information when faced with fructose malabsorption. With time you learn to trust your own gut instincts instead of blindly following other peoples’ lists. But still, wouldn’t it be nice to have easy access to all the fructose-related knowledge, just in case? Impossible? Not quite!

There is an app for that: “Food Intolerances” by Baliza

I’ve read a lot about the app “Food Intolerances“. It is a handy little guide for people suffering from food intolerances, looking for trustworthy information on whether a food should be avoided or not. The creators of the app evaluated more than 700 foods and rated them in terms of their fructose, lactose, sorbitol, histamine and gluten content. The best thing about it: The creators know exactly what to look for, because they all suffer from different food sensitivities themselves. Let’s jump into the details, shall we? Bonus: If you make it to the end of the review, you get a shot at winning 1 out of 5 copies of this app for free!

Being a newbie to fructose malabsorption: An interview with Joris

March 22, 2015 by Deniz 5 Comments

If it wasn’t for the internet I would probably still a) be haunted by daily stomach pain and b) think that I’m the only person on the planet, who suffers from fructose malabsorption. Especially seeing as b) isn’t really the case anymore becausea) has become less and less. In other words, it has beens pretty amazing to meet so many people online, who don’t hold back on good advice, making sugar free life with fructose malabsorption much easier for all of us. One of these persons on the interwebz is Joris. We started chatting on Instagram and thanks to him I now make sure to add 2 tablespoons of unhulled / browntop millet flour to my daily diet. Why? I’m happy that Joris is here today to explain this himself, in our little interview below. I didn’t want to miss out on the opportunity to ask one of these rare male specimens suffering from fructose and lactose malabsorption myself. 🙂 And now to you Joris. The stage is all yours!

Lactose and fructose malabsorption: Chatting with Joris on his experiences and how life has changed for him // Interview zum Thema Fructose- und Laktoseintoleranz: Ein Erfahrungsbericht eines Intoleranz-Neulings // fructopia.de

1. Hi Joris, please introduce yourself to the FRUCTOPIA readers!
My name is Joris. I am 22 years old and currently studying in the North of Germany.

2. What kind of food sensitivities do you suffer from and when did you first find out?
Last year in July I went to my doctor because I had serious pains in my stomach. When the doctor couldn’t find out what was causing this, he ran some tests in the laboratory. The results hinted to certain food sensitivities. But I had to wait until after I returned from a prolonged trip to the States to finally take the hydrogen breath tests and be sure about it. In November 2014 they finally diagnosed fructose malabsorption and then in December lactose intoleralnce joined the fun. …

Sweet Pumpkin Bread With A Cinnamon Swirl (Low Fructose, Wheat Free)

March 4, 2015 by Deniz 1 Comment

Sugarfree Sweet Pumpkin Spelt Bread with a Cinnamon Swirl // Süßes Kürbis-Dinkelbrot mit Zimtwirbel ohne Zucker // fructopia.deThe word is out: Last week I gave my final approval for my very own cookbook to go into print, but my small chipmunk heart is still pounding like mad. Between writing posts, testing recipes and the usual chaos here in Istanbul, I somehow forgot that the real excitementis only just about to begin. Writing a cookbook on the quiet is one thing. But waking up everyday to your good wishes, knowing that there are people now actually waiting for my cookbook to bet published, that’s pretty absurd.

So bear with me, while I get a bit emotional: I just wanted to say that I am really grateful for each and every one of you! Thanks a million for your lovely words and support! Thank you for every single like and share! Now come here, let me give you a hug and then I’ll bake you all the fructose free cakes in the world. Time To Reveal A Big Secret & Fructose Friendly Chocolates For All!

February 24, 2015 by Deniz 23 Comments

Time to reveal a big secret & fructose friendly hocolates for all! // Heute lüften wir ein Geheimnis. Fructosearme Pralinen für alle / by fructopia.deWords cannot describe. I’ve been bursting with excitement for a year, but find myself at a loss for words, now that the day has come, to raise the curtain and share my secret with you.

Countless times I imagined, what this moment of getting the big news out there would feel like. And now, I can finally present to you, what I’ve been putting so much heart into, what’s kept me awake at night and also gained me a few extra pounds.

But let’s start from the beginning. Sometime at the tail end of 2013 I wrote an email, asking for a free promo-code to download an app on fructose malabsorption to review it on my blog. At that time Fructopia was a mere six months old.

I received the code, tested the app and gave it a dismal rating, prompting me to write and share a detailed review. And then? Well, the people in charge of the app were actually delighted! Um, what? That’s right. They were delighted and wanted to talk to me.

And that was pretty much how we closed the deal. Let me dance a little dance, while I overdose on fructose, waiting for the symptoms to confirm this is real. …

5 surprising ways to use coconut oil
